Think globally, act locally

In Washington State, we have the opportunity to benefit our regional economy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

To do this, we'll need to work together in new ways, and we'll have to pay attention to the unique resources we have here in the Northwest. Now more than ever, we need to pay attention to where our energy comes from.

100% Northwest made

In contrast to other biodiesel producers, our company produces 100% Northwest biodiesel, not biodiesel made from imported vegetable oil. ("Imported" here having the meaning of "coming from outside Washington State.")

Our focus on regionally-produced feedstocks has important positive implications for Central and Eastern Washington and for Washington state and the Northwest.

Central Washington Biodiesel LLC supports the Central Washington agricultural economy by producing ASTM-standard biodiesel using oil from locally-grown oilseed crops and from Northwest-produced used fryer oil.

One requirement for a successful oilseed crop economy is nearby biodiesel production capacity, which, of course, requires a source of oil. We will solve this “chicken-egg” problem by initially making biodiesel using used fryer oil (UFO) from Central Washington restaurants.

Local agriculture

Washington State has some of the best farmland in the world on both sides of the Cascades. Grand Coulee Dam was built specifically to supply water to farmers through the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project. Grant County is home to most of Central Washington Biodiesel's farmland, and boasts the highest agricultural production value of any county in Washington State.

Washington's climate is especially suitable for canola and other crops in the mustard family. These crops outyield soybean, the oilseed crop that gets the most attention in the US.

While soybeans do not grow well here, other oilseed crops that are appropriate for Eastern Washington agriculture yield even more oil per acre than soybeans. There is widespread, but cautious, Washington grower interest in such crops, and recent state legislation was designed to make oilseed crops more attractive to area growers.
